OSMT Meeting “ONLINE ONLY” – We will not be meeting at Cheekwood this month due to room availability (Zoom/Online Only)

7 pm CST: “Orchids of Tennessee” – Dennis Horn

This month, OSMT’s meeting will be held ONLINE ONLY (Via Zoom) at our normal 3rd Tuesday day & time, on May 16 @ 7PM CST as we are not able to meet at Cheekwood due to room availability. Our Zoom Speaker will be Dennis Horn to talk to us all about “Orchids of Tennessee”.

Be prepared to let Dennis know at the meeting if you have any interest in attending a field trip to the Arnold Air Force Base (AEDC Property) near Tullahoma, TN on memorial day weekend (either Saturday, May 27th or Monday, May 29th (Memorial Day)); as he has offered to take OSMT members to see several orchids that will be in bloom at this time in that area if we can muster up a group of at least 4 people to attend on one of those days, but not both.

Dennis Horn is an engineer, naturalist, amateur botanist, and wildflower photographer. He is a charter member and currently a director in the Tennessee Native Plant Society (TNPS) and, for the past 25 years, a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for Rare Plants in Tennessee. For over 50 years, Dennis has traveled from the Mississippi River to the Blue Ridge Mountains studying and photographing Tennessee wildflowers. He is the co-editor of Wildflowers of Tennessee, the Ohio Valley, and the Southern Appalachians and has presented numerous wildflower programs for garden clubs, civic groups, and plant conferences. Dennis was awarded a Certificate of Merit in 2003 by the State of Tennessee for his conservation efforts. In 2020 Dennis received the Lifetime Conservation Award and was inducted into the Tennessee Botanists Hall of Fame by TNPS.
