We are welcoming back Tom Harper as our distinguished speaker during our October meeting so that he can provide us “Part 2” of his talk started in September. As part of OSMT outreach to new members, we welcome Tom Harper as our distinguished speaker for our August meeting who will be conducting a special lecture, and demonstration of proper care for orchids beginning at 7pm. Refreshments will be served prior to his talk at 6:30pm with regular meeting starting promptly at 7 pm. All new and prospective members are encouraged to attend this wonderful opportunity. Also, if you have a plant that is giving you some trouble and would like help diagnosing it and getting it to bloom or just survive, feel free to bring it with you to the meeting as we have will have Tom and many other members that specialize in different species who may be able to help ensure you can not only keep your plants alive, but have it flourish.
Tom is also a founding member of the International Phalaenopsis Alliance (IPA) in 1989. He was featured in an June 2015 article of Orchids magazine and conducted the September 2015 AOS (American Orchid Society) webinar “Growing Phalaenopsis,” drawing over 200 Global attendees.
He has been an active member in the OSMT (Orchid Society of Middle Tennessee) since 1967 serving as President, Vice President, and Trustee. He was the Show Chair of Mid America Orchid Congress and Tennessee Capital Orchid Show in Franklin, TN held in March of 2015.
Tom has been an accredited American Orchid Society judge since 1984 and is based in the Atlanta Judging Center. In the fall of 2014, he moved to Senior Judge after 30 years as an active judge.
