Kokedama is a traditional Japanese form of gardening that involves wrapping the roots of plants inside of moss rather than potting them. The result is simple but striking beauty that is sure to draw attention. Kokedama can be displayed on a plate or dish, or even suspended in the air using string. I stay true to original form by using fresh, live sheet moss when making these Kokedama (most modern examples use dead, preserved moss which does not look as nice and will crumble over time). Each Kokedama is handmade and will show some variation. Your piece is guaranteed to be unique and one-of-a-kind. Basic care info: Caring for your Kokedama is surprisingly easy. If your climate is dry, submerge the roots in water once per week for several minutes to maintain moisture. Light requirements: full to partial shade.

The seed heads are pretty, too, with their silvery-gray feather-like styles. There is an old saying with Clematis; “Tops in the sun and feet in the shade.” In other words the vine blooms best in the sun and benefits from a cluster of small plants, planted around the base of the plant. Many people simply plant a ground cover like ivy, myrtle, or pachysandra around the plant to shade the base. Clematis does best in fertile, humus rich, well-drained soil. Mulch well with composted manure or compost. Feed once a month with a well balanced fertilizer during the growing season.
