Because they grow upward, they take one-half the space it takes to grow bush beans, and they produce more beans than bush beans over a longer season. ‘Kentucky Wonder’ is an heirloom pole bean variety that produces 8-inch long pods on 6- to 8-foot long vines. It is resistant to bean rust, which can lead to reddish-orange spots on the leaves and pods. The beans are ready to be picked starting 65 days after sowing, about 10 days earlier than many pole bean varieties. 50+ seeds per order. Phaseolus vulgaris. Annual Vegetable. Full Sun. Spring, soil temp 70F+. SOW – 2 seeds per, 1″ deep, about 6″ apart. Keep moist. Germination 7-10 days. Thin to single best seedling. Use scissors to cut out unwanted sprouts. Pole Beans need something at least 6 ft tall to climb. There not picky. Trellis, Fence, Poles, Twine. Medium water. Light organic fertilizer if needed. 65 days to maturity. Pick mature pods every 2/3 days until first frost.

Kentucky Wonder Yellow Wax Bean Seeds (Pole Beans) | Butter Golden Seed For 2024

July 9, 2026

Kentucky Wonder Yellow Wax Beans are a delicious creamy butter-yellow sister of a string bean. This heirloom grows 6-8 inch long meaty almost stringless pods. Grows on beautiful leafy climbing vines. We ship in 1 business day. Shipped with USPS First Class Mail. Plant Name: Wax Bean, Kentucky Wonder Yellow Latin Name: Phaseolus vulgarus Days to Germinate: 6-10 Days to Harvest: 59 Germination Rate: 92% Test Date: 9/23 Growth Habit: Vining USDA Zones: 3-12 Lifespan: Annual Brand: TomorrowSeeds Sunlight: Full Sun, Partial Shade GMO: No Pollination: Heirloom, Open-Pollinated Fungicide-Treated Seeds:*: No Seeds Packed For**: 2024 *Fungicide-treated seeds protect the seedlings from diseases until they are up and growing. Do not eat treated seeds. **Seeds are freshly packed for the growing season of the year listed. Seeds are still viable beyond pack date. Store in a cool and dry location such as the refrigerator or basement to best preserve germination rates. Planting Instructions: Soil Preparation: Remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Till the soil 8-10 inches deep and rake several times to break up large clods. It is best to do this when the soil is dry enough to not stick to garden tools. Loosening the soil will help the plant establish strong roots. Planting: In the Spring, plant beans after all danger of frost has passed. In the Fall, plant beans 10 to 12 weeks before the first expected frost. For large plots, use ΒΌ to Β½ pound of seed for each 100 feet of row of green beans. Plant pole beans in hills about 3 feet apart in the row. Space the rows about 3-4 feet apart. Place a 6-8-foot stake in the center of each hill. Plant 3-4 seeds around the stake about 1 inch deep in the soil. Planting in moist soil is best for seeds to germinate and emerge quickly. Planting Depth: 1 inch Within-Row Spacing: 3 feet Between-Row Spacing: 3-4 feet Care During the Season: Watering: Water the plants about once a week in dry weather. Try not to let the soil dry out while the beans are blooming or the blooms will drop and yields will be decreased. Weeding: The roots of beans grow near the soil surface. When hoeing and pulling weeds, try not to dig too deep to prevent the plant’s roots from damage. Fertilizing: As the plants begin to flower and set beans, you may optionally apply fertilizer to help plants produce more beans. Apply by scattering between the rows about 1/2 cup of fertilizer for every 10 feet of row. Water the plants after fertilizing. Insecticides: Insecticides may be used to protect plants. Bt-based insecticides and sulfur are organic options. Sulfur also has fungicidal properties and helps in controlling many diseases. Before using a pesticide, read the label and always follow cautions, warnings and directions. Diseases: Diseases may be a possibility during cool, wet weather. If spots appear on leaves or bean pods, treat the plant with an approved fungicide. Neem oil, sulfur, and other fungicides may be used. Harvesting: Pick beans when they are about 6 inches long and as thick as a pencil for best taste. If beans are picked, the plants will continue producing for several weeks. Beans are over-mature if they are tough, dry, fading in color, or stringy. Fresh beans can be frozen or stored in a refrigerator for a week.
