10 BLUE YUCCA TREE SEEDS (Yucca rigida) Exotic “RARE” Agave Cold Hardy~Zone 5
10 BLUE YUCCA TREE SEEDS (Yucca rigida)”Exotic & Rare”Yucca rigida is one of our top recommendations for an elegant and architectural desert plant. It is a dramatic, trunk-forming, hardy species with a crown of stiff, sword-like, powder blue leaves first forming a low rosette and very slowly developing a trunk with age. In it’s natural conditions, it can grow up to 15′ foot tall, with white clusters of flowers rise 2-3 feet above the foliage. Yucca rigida resembles Yucca rostrata but with much stiffer leaves, and is very rare in comparison to Yucca rostrara. They love hot sunny spots with good drainage. Outdoors, grow in well-drained soil in full sun. Tolerates extreme drought once established. Will tolerate temperatures down to -23C (-10F) but will not tolerate winter wet. Best protected with fleece in the coldest areas of its range. Under glass, grow in loam-based compost in full light. Water moderately & feed monthly. Yucca rigida Germination:1) Sow the Yucca seeds in a gritty mix of peat, coco fiber, vermiculite and perlite, sand or similar media. Fill shallowly in trays or pots and sow the seeds on the surface. Sow appx. 3-4 per container, as not all will germinate.2) Cover the seeds with a thin layer of sandy soil, about as thick as the seeds are.3) It is Necessary to use a heated propagator mat to keep them at 85 degrees during the day. Using a timer to turn the mat off at night to allow temperatures to drop will create alternating temperature which mimic their natural conditions. This will greatly improve germination.4) Keep in a brightly lit area, or use a grow light, but never full sun.5) Mist the soil periodically with a spray bottle to ensure the top layer stays slightly moist, but never wet. 6) Germination is erratic with rigida seeds. Expect a few to germinate within 4-6 weeks, while most others can take up to 6 months to germinate, so don’t toss out any that don’t sprout earlier than others. Also, periodically check them to be sure no signs of mold or fungus arise. If spotted, clean the effected seed/seeds with a copper based fungicide, then rinse really well with clean water. Replant in a new and sterile mix. “Please Contact us First if You Need Anything”
