6 pounds Garlic Chives (Allium tuberosum) mature plants roots 韭菜, ニラ, 부추

July 9, 2026

5/16/2024 – These are no longer dormant. Garlic Chives are fairly tough and should have no problem planting even in the heat of the summer. We have loads off these all over the property that we planted about 24 years ago and they starting spreading a lot since that time popping up everywhere, but we now need to make room for a new barn, so they have to go. A little pained to kill them off, so hoping others can enjoy them. The picture in the gallery with the measuring tape basically show how big these plants got going unattended in the field for 10 years. 6 pounds is roughly what can fit into a Regional Rate A USPS box. I am sending them in clump form, not plugs. There are several reasons to prefer it this way. Plugs take some time to establish, and only then are you able to enjoy multiple harvests over a season. The larger the root system, the faster they grow back once you trim for harvest. Also with clumps, the plants bounce back from transplanting much faster. You can divide them as you please. Perhaps more importantly for those that like immediate gratification, the large root system allows you to enjoy multiple harvests basically this year instead of waiting a year or two for plugs to mature.

300 GARLIC CHIVE SEEDS NON – GMO FRESH FRESH HARVEST FOR 2024 GARDENS

July 9, 2026

300GARLIC CHIVESEEDS Cultivating Garlic Chive: An In-Depth Guide Garlic chive, also known as Chinese chives or Allium tuberosum, is a popular herb that is widely cultivated for its distinct garlic-like flavor. It belongs to the same family as the onion, leek, and garlic, and is native to Asia. With its easy cultivation process and numerous health benefits, growing garlic chives in your garden can be a rewarding and flavorful experience. In this guide, we will take you through step by step instructions on how to cultivate garlic chives successfully, along with a delicious recipe and health benefits of this versatile herb. Step 1: Selecting the Right Location Garlic chives thrive in well-drained soil that receives plenty of sunlight. Choose a sunny spot in your garden or a large pot if you are planning to grow them indoors. Be sure to provide sufficient space between plants as they can spread rapidly. Step 2: Preparing the Soil Prepare the soil by removing any debris and weeds. Garlic chives prefer neutral to slightly acidic soil with a pH ranging from 6.0 to 7.0. Incorporate organic matter such as compost or well-rotted manure to improve the soil’s fertility and drainage. Step 3: Planting Garlic Chive Seeds Sow the garlic chive seeds directly into the prepared soil, about ¼ inch deep and 1 inch apart. Space rows about 12 inches apart if you are growing multiple rows. Gently water the soil to keep it moist until the seeds germinate, which usually takes around 10 to 14 days. Step 4: Watering and Maintenance Garlic chives require regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot. Keep an eye out for weeds and remove them regularly to prevent competition for nutrients and space. If you notice any yellowing or wilting leaves, trim them to encourage healthier growth. Step 5: Harvesting Garlic Chives Garlic chives can be harvested once the plants have reached a height of around 6 to 8 inches. Cut the leaves just above the soil level using a sharp pair of scissors or garden shears. This will encourage continuous growth and multiple harvests throughout the season. It is best to harvest the leaves before the plant flowers, as flowering can make the leaves tough and bitter. Popular Recipe: Garlic Chive Pancakes Garlic chive pancakes are a delicious and popular way to enjoy the unique flavor of garlic chives. Here’s a simple recipe to try: Ingredients: – 1 cup all-purpose flour – 1/2 cup water – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1 cup chopped garlic chives – 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Instructions: 1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, water, and salt until a smooth batter is formed. 2. Stir in the chopped garlic chives into the batter until well combined. 3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. 4. Pour about 1/4 cup of the batter into the pan and spread it out evenly to form a pancake shape. 5. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom turns golden brown, then flip and cook the other side for an additional 2-3 minutes. 6. Repeat the process with the remaining batter, adding more oil to the pan as needed. 7. Once all the pancakes are cooked, serve them hot with a dipping sauce of your choice. They are delicious with soy sauce or a mixture of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a dash of sesame oil. Health Benefits of Garlic Chive: Garlic chives offer numerous health benefits due to their rich nutritional profile. Here are some of the key benefits: 1. High in Nutrients: Garlic chives are a good source of vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like calcium, iron, and potassium. 2. White, edible flowers appear in summer, and attract pollinators and other beneficial insects. Gather stems for bouquets or deadhead to keep plants from self-sowing.  (That kind of growth tends to be aggressive in colder regions.)  Give garlic chives full sun for best flowering and upright growth. The strappy-leafed clumps make an attractive edging in herb or vegetable gardens. Tolerates frost. The care of garlic chives is pretty straightforward.  Water as needed; although the plants are drought tolerant, they do enjoy moist soil.  Other care of garlic chives instructs fertilizing them at the start of the growing season with a slow release fertilizer. After a long term freeze, garlic chives will often die back only to return again come springtime. Garlic chives not only have a multitude of culinary uses, but are said to be beneficial to the digestive system, stimulate appetite, promote blood circulation, and have diuretic properties. Clip the stems either all the way to the ground or with 2 inches remaining to allow the herb to grow anew. Helpful Tips: To prevent the potential spreading of this plant, tuck it in a pot when planting in a garden with other plants. It also helps to aid your soil with organic matter.  Harvest leaves individually or clip leafy stems.

200+ Garlic Chives Seeds Heirloom NON-GMO Always Fresh Seeds for Your Garden Allium tuberosum (Garlic chives, Oriental garlic, Asian chives, Chinese chives, Chinese leek) is a species of onion native to southwestern parts of the Chinese province of Shanxi and cultivated and naturalized elsewhere in Asia and around the world. A popular vegetable in eastern Asia, where the plant is often cultivated for its edible leaves, bulb, and flowering stems. It has been reported as growing wild in scattered locations in the United States (Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, Alabama, Iowa, Arkansas, and Wisconsin). However, it is believed to be more widespread in North America because of the availability of seeds and seedlings of this species as an exotic herb and because of its high aggressiveness. This species is also widespread across much of mainland Europe and invasive in other areas of the world.Garlic Chives is often grown in gardens because of its attractive flowers and the culinary properties of the leaves. Allium tuberosum is a rhizomatous, clump-forming perennial plant growing from a small, elongated bulb (about 10 mm across) that is tough and fibrous. Unlike either onion or garlic, it has strap-shaped leaves with triangular bases, about 1.5 to 8 mm wide. It produces many white flowers in a round cluster (umbel) on stalks 25to 60 cm tall.It grows in slowly expanding perennial clumps, but also readily sprouts from seed. In warmer are as, garlic chives may remain green all year round. In cold areas, leaves and stalks completely die back to the ground and re-sprout from roots or rhizomes in the spring.Growing Garlic Chives: After danger of frost, sow Garlic Chives seeds in open ground well exposed. Cover Garlic Chives herb seeds 1/8 inch with loose soil. Keep moist until germination. Regular cutting helps keep plants vigorous and healthy and encourages spreading.
