Here in North America, the plants grow spring through fall. They pause or die back in the winter, depending on the climate. In zones colder than zone 7, it would be wise to put mulch over the plants in the winter. The more sun and water they receive, the larger they will grow. They do fine in full sun to dappled shade. The bananas make beautiful plants. See those pictures! Those are my pictures! The leaves are really spectacular! The plants are good for many purposes in the kitchen as well. I use the leaves for garnish & for “natural” dishes. The inner “core” of the stem (pseudostem, technically) is a tasty starch-like food (it tastes like corn to me). The foliage also makes great animal feed (chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats, and bovine). Textiles, yarn, and paper can be made from the plant. Suitable for myriad permaculture uses.
