Transplant into the garden after risk of frost has passed.Where to Plant Thyme SeedsPlant Thyme in dry, well draining soils exposed to full sun (6-8 hours of sun per day). Thyme thrives in sandy, rocky, or other similarly loose soil compositions. Do not allow Thyme to exist in wet soils, as it is prone to rot. Thyme is commonly planted on the outside of garden beds to ward off pests that would prey on other garden vegetables. How to Plant Thyme SeedsThyme seeds require light to germinate, so be careful not to cover them when planting. Learn more about germination light requirements here.Sow on the surface of the soil indoors and lightly cover but do not bury the seed. Once seedlings are 3-6 inches tall, transplant into the garden 12-24 inches apart to allow room to grow. How to Harvest ThymeIn the morning, right before flowering, cut 4-6 inches of herbaceous stalks, leaving woody parts behind. Do not wash harvested thyme, instead shake dry in order to preserve the oils. Harvested stems can be hung in a dry, dark, and cool place such as a garage over 1 to 2 weeks. Thyme leaves can be harvested from the stalks by pinching the end of the stem and moving up the stalk. Store leaves in a dry, dark, and cool place in a container to dry over a few days.WE SHIP FAST & FREE! Your orders ship the next business date after payment via US mail. NO TRACKING. Soil Temperature: 65-70 degrees Average Germination Time: 14-21 Days at 65-70 degrees Planting Time: Sow Creeping Thyme seeds in starter trays 6-8 weeks prior to the end of frost season for transplanting out in the garden. Soil Depth: Press the seeds into the soil but do not cover. Seeds need light to germinate. Moisture: Keep the seeds moist until germination. Getting ready to plant outside: Harden off the seedlings for 7-10 days prior to transplanting outside. Then transplant out into the garden bed. Add compost at the time of planting to enrich the soil. Planting Location: Plant Thyme in full sun and in fast-draining soils. Thyme does not like wet soils and may rot in soils that hold water. Plant Spacing: 6-8” apart. Light Preference: Sun/Part-shade. In very hot climates thyme will need part-shade to do well. Soil Requirements: Creeping Thyme grows best in light, dry, well-drained soil. Note: Creeping Thyme will become woody and needs to be divided or replaced after 3-4 Years..STARTING CREEPING THYME SEEDS OUTDOORS (do so at your own risk, Creeping Thyme seeds cannot be allowed to dry out before germinating and they take 7-21 days to germinate) Plant creeping thyme seeds directly outside after the danger of frost has passed. Soak seeds for 24 hours in warm water prior to planting. Prepare a seed bed, loosen the soil and remove weeds. Scatter the Creeping Thyme ground cover seeds evenly and press them lightly into the soil. Keep the soil consistently moist, but not soaked. Do not allow seeds to dry out. These are tiny tiny seeds so if the top of the soil dries out the seeds will dry out and not germinate. Thyme prefers a sandy, dry soil. Avoid planting in heavy, wet soils. Creeping Thyme is a beautiful ground cover, between stepping stones or rock crevices, and to edge garden beds.WE SHIP FAST & FREE! Your orders ship the next business date after payment via US mail. It grows best in full sun with moist to mesic conditions and tolerates the combination of heat and humidity. Plants can grow up to 4 feet tall and produce purple, feathery wands that give the species its name. Recommended for the home garden and for cutting. Also useful in meadow plantings and rain gardens as well as prairie and pollinator mixes. Attracts seed-eaters and pollinators such as butterflies, honey bees and wild bees. Serves as a host plant for the rare Glorious Flower Moth (Schinia gloriosa)..FAST FACTSName:Gayfeather / Blazing Star SeedsBotanical Name:Liatris spicataLife Cycle:PerennialLight Requirement:Full Sun, Partial SunPlanting Season:Spring, FallPlant Type:Green shrub with tall spikes of tiny purple florettesFeatures:Heirloom, Attracts Pollinators, Drought Tolerant, Deer Resistant, Cut Flower Garden, Container GardenColor:PurpleBlooms:SummerPlant Height:Up to 28 inchesPlant Spacing:12-18 inchesPlanting Depth:1/16thSowing Method:Direct SowCold Stratification:NoHardiness Zones:3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9Ships:Year Round HOW TO GROW GAYFEATHER / BLAZING STAR SEEDSHow to Plant Blazing StarWHEN TO PLANT BLAZING STAR SEEDSDirect Sow outdoors in the Fall after the first killing frost. For climates with mild winters, seeds can be sown outdoors after a 12 week cold stratification, and outdoor soil temperatures reach a consistent 65°F. WHERE TO PLANT BLAZING STAR SEEDSGayfeather thrives in Full Sun conditions, but it can tolerate a little bit of light shade. Partial Shade conditions would not be ideal for Gayfeather, however. Gayfeather does best in soil of low-to-average richness, that is well-draining as well. Soggy conditions make this variety susceptible to root rot. HOW TO PLANT BLAZING STAR SEEDSSow seeds onto the surface of the soil, and compress firmly. Do not cover your Gayfeather seeds, as they’ll require sunlight to germinate. HOW TO CARE FOR BLAZING STAR Once seedlings are 2-3 inches tall, thin or transplant them to a spacing of 8-12 inches apart. Once established, Gayfeather is drought tolerant – manual watering is only needed during extended drought periods. After plants have come up, you can mulch around them to decrease any maintenance needs. After a few years, Gayfeather will likely become overcrowded. Dig up your tuber roots, separate them out, and then replant.WE SHIP FAST &FREE! Your orders ship the next business date after payment via US mail. NO TRACKING.
