Long Island Improved Brussel sprout Brassica oleracea heirloom 250+ seeds

July 9, 2026

Long Island Improved Brussel sprout Brassica oleracea heirloom Micro Green favorite! Fast Germination 250+ seeds Botanical Name: Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera Days to Maturity: 85–110 days Family: Brassicaceae Native: Europe Hardiness: Frost-tolerant biennial; will tolerate temperatures to about 10?F. Plant Dimensions: 20″–24″ tall Variety Information: 1″–1½”, blue-green orbs that look like tiny cabbage heads, and grow tightly and densely against the main trunk of the plant. The cluster of leaves at the top of the plant give it a palm-tree-like look. ‘Long Island Improved’ was developed in the 1890s, quickly becoming the garden standard, and continues to be a dependable heirloom for home gardeners. When to Sow Outside: 4 months before your average first fall frost date, when soil temperature is at least 40°F. When to Start Inside: RECOMMENDED. 4 to 6 weeks before transplanting outside, about 4 months before your average first fall frost date so sprouts mature in cool weather. In mild climates, sow in fall for harvest in late winter and early spring. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 60°–85°F. Days to Emerge: 5–10 days Seed Depth: ¼” Seed Spacing: A group of 3 seeds every 24″ Row Spacing: 24″ Thinning: When 2″ tall, thin to 1 every 24″ Harvesting: Brussels sprouts start maturing from the bottom of the plant to the top. Buds should be picked when they are firm and about the size of a large cherry, between 3/4″ and 1″ in size. Break off the leaf just below the buds and snap or cut off the sprout. Brussels sprouts can be left in the garden through a freeze, which sweetens the flavor. Brussels sprouts contain sulforaphane, a chemical believed to have potent anticancer properties. They are an excellent source of protein, and just 88 grams (g), or 1 cup, of raw Brussels sprouts meets the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) recommended daily requirements for vitamin C and vitamin K.

10 White Purple Rose Seeds Flower Bush Perennial Shrub Flowers Seed 264 US SELLE

The next step how to grow roses from seed is to sprout the rose seeds. After having gone through their “stratification” time, take the containers out of the refrigerator and into a warm environment of around 70 F. (21 C.). I do my best to time this for early spring when the seedlings would normally be coming out of their cold cycle (stratification) outside and starting to sprout.Once in the proper warm environment, the rose bush seeds should start to sprout. The rose bush seeds will usually continue to sprout over the course of two to three weeks, but probably only 20 to 30 percent of the rose seeds planted will actually sprout.Once the rose seeds sprout, carefully transplant the rose seedlings into other pots. It is extremely important not to touch the roots during this process! A spoon may be used for this seedling transfer phase to help keep from touching the roots.Feed the seedlings with half strength fertilizer and be sure they have plenty of light once they start to grow. The use of a grow light system works very well for this phase of the rose propagation process. The use of a fungicide on the growing rose seeds will help keep fungal diseases from attacking the rose seedlings at this vulnerable time.Do not over water the rose seedlings; over watering is a major killer of seedlings.Provide a lot of light as well as good air circulation to the rose seedlings to avoid disease and pests. If disease does set in on some of them, it is probably best to eliminate them and keep only the hardiest of the rose seedlings. The time it takes for the new roses to actually flower can vary greatly so be patient with your new rose babies. Growing roses from seed can take some time, but you will be rewarded for your efforts.

African Tulip Magnolia Flower Tree Seeds Spatho. campanulata Flame of The Forest

July 9, 2026

African Tulip Magnolia Tree Seeds (Spathodea campanulata) “Flame of The Forest”Extravagant in every way, the African tulip tree (Spathodea campanulata) is known throughout the world as one of the most beautiful of all flowering trees. Widely grown in tropical climates but sensitive to cold, it was once quite rare in cultivation in California. In the past twenty years, however, this “king of flowering trees” has become a popular landscape tree in frost-free areas of Southern California, with a number of fine, mature specimens now thriving in San Diego County. A very popular cultivated ornamental in tropical climates, it is a large evergreen tree to fifty feet tall, or more, with flowers throughout the year. When grown in cooler climates such as Southern California, however, it is usually smaller.Winter hardy to USDA Zones 10-11 where it is easily grown in rich, moderately fertile, moist, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerates part shade, but best flowering is in full sun. May drop some leaves in dry seasons or when subjected to light frost. Must be sited in locations protected from wind because tree wood is weak and brittle. Established plants have some drought tolerance, but trees subject to dry conditions often become ragged in appearance with some leaf drop. Foliage will die if temperatures dip to 28 degrees F., but roots may survive to 20 degrees F. ZONES: 10-12African Tulip Tree Germination:”Plant more than needed as germination of African Tulip Tree seeds is only 50% when kept at 80 degrees F”1) Place the seeds in a shallow glass bowl, and cover them with lukewarm water. Soak the seeds for 48 hours, and then drain the water from the seeds. Growing an African tulip tree from seed is not difficult. However, either purchased or gathered seed germination is erratic, and approximately 50 percent of the small seeds will not germinate.2) Prepare a seed-planting soil mixture by combining equal parts of potting soil, organic compost and peat moss. Mix the materials until the mix is loose and crumbly. Fill nursery planting trays with the planting mixture. Water the soil and allow it to drain. The soil should be moist but not soggy.3) Scatter the African tulip tree seeds evenly over the surface of the soil and press down gently. Do not cover with additional soil, because the seeds require light to germinate. Using a spray bottle, mist the surface of the soil lightly with water. Cover each planting tray with a clear dome lid to retain moisture, and place the trays in a warm location. The trays should be located in an area with abundant light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the tender young seedlings. Keep the tree seeds evenly moist by misting with water daily. The seeds germinate quickly, often as early as two weeks after planting.4) Remove the plastic domes covering the seed trays when the seeds have germinated. Remove the weakest seedlings to provide room for the strongest plants to develop. Cut off week seedlings at the soil level with shears; pulling out the dead seedlings can damage the roots of nearby healthy plants. Keep the soil evenly moist until the seedlings are about 2 to 3 inches tall and have developed two leaves.5) Select the strongest seedlings for transplanting to a container for outdoor growing. African tulip trees may also be grown indoors in a sunny location. Plant the tender young seedlings, one to a pot. Use 8-inch pots to start your new African tulip tree seedlings. Transplant to larger pots as the plants mature.
