This plant acts as a sign of balance & brings in a positive dose of energy indoors (source). They are highly forgiving and can thrive on neglect. In recent years, the ponytail palm tree has become a popular houseplant and it is easy to see why. Its sleek bulb-like trunk and lush, long curly leaves make it visually stunning, and the fact that a ponytail palm is forgiving and easy in its care makes this an ideal houseplant for many people. Ponytail Palms are distinctive plants that you are not likely to confuse with any other small trees in your garden. Slow growers, these palms have swollen trunk bases that taper. They are best known for their long, slender cascading leaves that are arranged in the same way as a pony’s tail. Growing ponytail palm outdoors is possible in warmer climates and caring for ponytail palm outdoors is not difficult. If you live in a very warm climate like that found in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 9 through 11, growing ponytail palm outdoors is entirely feasible. They can grow to 30 feet tall, but rarely do as houseplants. Plant them as small, unusual specimen trees or else in containers on the patio. These lovely little trees thrive in full sun with generous but infrequent irrigation. Overwatering as a houseplant will kill them. Remember that the common name of this plant is slightly misleading. The ponytail palm is not a palm at all but related to the water-sparing Yucca Family. Expect this plant to store water in its swollen trunk base to help it through dry, hot weather. Using a good Cactus/Succulent Mix will greatly benefit them.Ponytail Germination:1) Remove flakes from around the hard seeds inside. (If already cleaned, ignore this step)2) Sand the hard shells with rough grit sandpaper, then pour hot water over them and let them soak for 24 hours.3) Use a Cactus/Succulent potting mix. Moisten the soil and press the seeds lightly into the surface. Cover with a very fine layer of sand. 4) Use a heated propagator to keep the soil temperature above 68 F at all times. 75+ would be Optimal.5) Keep the container lightly moist by misting. Cover the container with plastic until germination. Misting will also help with keeping the seeds getting dislodged, and buried too deep while germinating.5) Use a heated propagator to ensure the daytime temperature stay at 70-75 degrees F. Turn off the heated mat at night to create alternating temperatures. This mimics their natural conditions, and will greatly improve germination rates.6) Use a grow light as Blueberry seeds need light in order to germinate. Or place in a window that gets filtered light, but never full sun while germinating.7) Patience is needed as germination of Highbush Blueberry seeds is erratic. Some will germinate withing 6-8 weeks, but don’t toss any out that don’t sprout quickly as some can take up to 12 weeks.

Passion Fruit is tolerant of droughts and cold weather, however it does best in warm weather with frequent watering. Partial sun to full sun is ideal. To germinate, gardeners scarify their seeds by rubbing them lightly against fine-grit sandpaper to help thin the seed coat. Afterwards, place the scarified seeds into hot water (not boiling, just hot to the touch, ~100F), and let them sit overnight. Replace the water with hot, fresh water the next morning. After soaking the seeds, they can be placed into starting soil, 1/4 inch deep. Make sure to keep the starter pots in direct sunlight, keep them warm, and don’t let the soil dry out. Germination should occur within 2 to 4 weeks. Considering this longer germination time, planting the seeds in late winter to early spring is ideal.
