Soil Condition: Well-drained, loamy, pH 4.6 to 6.0. Features: Drought tolerant, low maintenance, reliable, evergreen. Uses: Massed planting, ground cover. Comments: Pachysandra terminalis, known as Japanese Spurge, is a reliable perennial ground cover. Evergreen oval leaves, about 2 inches to 3 inches in width, are lightly toothed. Small, white flowers appear in spring and summer. Pachysandra spreads by underground stolons. Mature height ranges from 8 inches to 10 inches. Pachysandra thrives in partial shade to full shade in USDA climate zones 4 to 9, but will tolerate some sun in cooler climates. It prefers rich, loamy, well-drained soil with pH ranging from 4.5 to 6.0, and is drought-tolerant when established. Space Pachysandra approximately 12 inches to 16 inches apart.
