Seeds are packaged by weight, all seed counts should be considered estimates. 1 gram of tobacco seeds is approximately 10,000 seeds. This listing is for 100 milligrams of seeds which is approximately 1,000 seeds. About Connecticut Shade Connecticut Shade leaf produces some of the finest cigar wrappers in the world. Originally grown under trees to provide shade from the direct sun, today’s shade leaf tobaccos are now commercially grown under shade cloth. The covering is used to duplicate the tropical shady conditions where this type of tobacco was originally grown. Connecticut produces nearly 900,000 lbs of shade grown leaf annually. Connecticut shade-grown tobacco is one of the most expensive agricultural commodities in the world commanding prices of $55 or more per pound for the highest grades of leaf. Our seed stock originates from one of these Connecticut farms, and is the same seed used to grow 60 acres under shade cloth in the 2013 season. Connecticut Shade Leaf will grow to over 9′ in height producing 26-28 leaves. The plants are very uniform and have little to no suckering. The leaves are a light green averaging 12″ x 18″ and turn a mottled yellow as they ripen. It matures in 75-80 days. Shade Leaf tobaccos will develop leaf qualities more similar to a broadleaf wrapper when grown in full sun. When shade grown the leaf will be larger, thinner and be more elastic. How to Grow Tobacco Growing your own tobacco is so easy and not dissimilar to growing tomatoes. Place commercial seedling compost into a tray and soak the soil with water and allow the excess water to drain off. Sprinkle the tobacco seeds onto the surface of the damp soil. Do not cover the seeds, as they need light for germination. Tobacco seeds are very tiny, so be careful to spread the seeds as evenly as possible. Keep the soil damp being careful not to wash the seeds around when you water; better still water from below or use a mist sprayer. At a temperature of 75-80 degrees, seeds typically take a matter of days to germinate; though at this stage they are still rather small. At lower temperatures, the germination simply takes a few days longer. Plantlets are ready to be transplanted into bigger pots, when the leaves are about 1cm in length. Care should be taken not to disturb the roots. Feed should only be given to established and rapidly growing plants after they have been replanted. Tobacco requires a lot of nitrogen and potash, which can be supplied using standard garden fertilizer. You may want to grow your tobacco using only organic fertilizers. Ideally, space the tobacco plants about 2 ft. apart in rows 3 ft. apart. Transplant outside in the evening or when it is cloudy and overcast to avoid the youngsters from drying out. Water plants thoroughly after transplanting and water daily until plants become established. Like tomato plants, the branches (suckers, offshoots), should be removed to focus the plants energy on the large leaves. Tobacco plants generally require full to partial sunlight to grow properly. Tobacco is ready to be harvest after 60-90 days after germinating.

Pour the seeds into a bowl. Make a 10 percent salt solution and pour it over the seeds. Let the seeds soak in this solution for five minutes. Pour the seeds back into the strainer and rinse off the salt solution. Soak the seeds in clear water for 15 minutes, and drain them to dry. Make a half-and-half mixture of perlite and peat moss. Moisten the mixture until you can grab a handful and just barely squeeze out a drop. Place the soil mixture in a flat planter box with a lid. A plastic sweater box with holes poked in the bottom is the ideal size and shape for this project. Draw rows in the soil mix about 1 inch deep and plant a sprinkling of seeds along each row. Alternately, dig a round hole 2 inches across and 1 inch deep. Sprinkle about 10 seeds in the bottom of the hole. Cover the surface of the mix with these holes. Cover the seeds with very fine soil mix. Place the lid on the box and move the box to a spot where it won’t be disturbed. Remove the lid every three days to give the plants fresh air. Moisten the soil mix during this time if it has begun to dry out. Replace the lid after you have watered the mix. Remove the lid permanently after the seedlings reach the lid inside. The first seedlings will sprout after two to three weeks, and the seeds will continue to sprout until they have all emerged. Mix an all-purpose houseplant fertilizer according to the package directions. Pour the fertilizer into a clean spray bottle and mist the plants once they are four weeks old. RAINBOW COLEUS MIX (Solenostemon scutellarioides)- Coleus is a beautiful plant that blooms in leaves and not flowers, and many gardeners can recognize the importance and beauty that foliage alone can bring to a garden. Before Planting: Coleus can grow in the shade, but you will obtain the best color of leaves by planting it in an area that has morning sun and afternoon shade. Planting: Sow seeds indoors eight to 12 weeks before the last frost. Coleus can grow in patio containers or in a flowerbed. Watering: Make sure the soils has dried to a depth of two Fertilizer: Fertilize Coleus once a month with a 10-10-10 fertilizer. Days to Maturity: It can take 4-12 months for the plants to look ideal. Harvesting: Coleus do not make the greatest options for cut flowers because they tend to wilt immediately upon cutting them. however, you can overwinter Coleus by turning it into a houseplant during the colder months. Tips: Coleus will flower if you don’t pinch it back, so be sure to pinch the plant back every few weeks to direct more energy into the stem and leaves of the plant. When Coleus flowers, it puts too much energy into the flower blooms and loses vigor with its leaves. Once the Coleus flowers, it will die a few weeks afterwards. BUY IT NOW, PRICE BREAK ON QUANTITY!!!1 ROOT * 3 ROOTS * 6 ROOTS * 12 ROOTS * 24 ROOTS OR 48 ROOTSPlants (Roots) are completely dormant in the Fall and Winter months.Common Name: bleeding heart Type: Herbaceous perennialFamily: PapaveraceaeZone: 3 to 9Height: 1.00 to 1.50 feetSpread: 1.00 to 1.50 feetBloom Time: MayBloom Description: Cherry redSun: Part shadeWater: MediumMaintenance: LowFlower: Showy, Good CutTolerate: Deer, RabbitCulture Easily grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade. Prefers rich, fertile, humusy, consistently moist soils. Soils must not be allowed to dry out during summer. Intolerant of wet soils in winter. Promptly remove spent flowering stems to promote additional bloom.Noteworthy Characteristics Dicentra is a genus of 20 or more species of annual and perennial herbaceous flowering plants which are native to moist woodland areas in Asia and North America. Plants feature pendant, two-spurred, heart-shaped flowers atop mounds of deeply dissected leaves. A number of cultivars have been produced in recent years which are hybrid crosses between D. peregrine (native to alpine areas of China and eastern Siberia) and D. eximea (native to woodland areas of eastern North America) in which the goal was to produce a dicentra with a compact and robust habit, long flowering period, blue-gray foliage and quality flower colors. Genus name comes from the Greek words dis meaning twice and kentron meaning a spur for the two-spurred flowers. Flowers in the genus Dicentra are commonly called bleeding heart because protruding inner petals, more obvious in some species than others, purportedly appear to form a drop of blood at the bottom of each heart-shaped flower. ‘Luxuriant’ features deeply-cut, fern-like, grayish-green foliage which persists throughout the growing season and cherry red, nodding, heart-shaped flowers carried above the foliage on long, leafless, leaning stems. Protruding inner petals of the flower purportedly appear to form a drop of blood at the bottom of each heart-shaped flower (hence the common name of bleeding heart). Plant typically grows to 15″ tall. Bloom begins in late spring. In cooler climates, flowering may continue throughout the summer, but in the hotter climates, the flowering will generally stop in hot weather, with a possible rebloom occurring when the weather cools in late summer or early fall. Given adequate moisture, foliage remains attractive in summer, and may produce an attractive groundcover effect. Similar in appearance to the showy, old garden bleeding heart from Asia, D. spectabilis, except D. spectabilis is taller and wider, its flowers are larger and its foliage is less dissected and usually goes dormant by mid-summer. ‘Luxuriant’ is probably a hybrid between D. eximia (eastern U.S. native) and D. formosa (western U.S. native).Uses Mass, group or specimen in woodland gardens or shaded areas borders and rock gardens. Foliage can be quite attractive when flowers are not in bloom.
