This compost is ready to use and produce pounds of fresh mushrooms for you to enjoy. Simply add your favorite colonized grain spawn. Each of our compost / bulk substrate bags is packaged in 10x5x24 gusseted myco bags made from 3 mil polypropylene. and is equal to roughly 4.5 quarts in volume. How to use our products, Our compost works best when inoculated with colonized grain spawn, not a spore / liquid culture solution. If you inject spores right into this bag there is little change it will colonize. Spores need some kind of food of nutritive substance to take hold of in order to establish a mycelium network. Mycelium feeds off decaying mater and compost is already broken down. It is best to start with grain spawn like rye berries or rice flour. The best method is to inoculate a bag of sterilized grain or brown rice flour jars with your syringe. Once the substrate is fully colonized then break it up and pour it into the bag of compost. One pound of colonized grain spawn will easily colonize a ten pound bag of compost. Once the compost is fully colonized you can fruit it in the bag or transfer it to some kind of fruiting chamber, terrarium or mono tub. A casing layer may be necessary depending on the species.
