Nearly round fruit average 7 to 8″ in diameter and weight 7 to 10 lbs. Red-orange flesh is firm and great tasting with small dark-brown apple like seeds. Matures in 68 to 80 days. Drought resistant and great for the home garden! Average water needs. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies, and/or birds.Sugar Baby, a 1959 heirloom, packs a lot of flavor in a small melon; this variety grows very well in the North, since it is one of the earliest melons available.Sowing and plantingGardeners in warm climates will be able to direct sow watermelon as soon as the soil temperature reahes at least 75 degrees F,planting six seeds per hill with 6-8in of space in all directions.Thin to the strongest two or three plants as soon as the seedlings appear.
