EGGPLANT SEED, LONG PURPLE, HEIRLOOM, ORGANIC, NON GMO, 100 SEEDS, GARDEN SEED EGGPLANT SEED, LONG PURPLE, HEIRLOOM, NON GMO, GARDEN SEED Click images to enlarge Description NON GMO, HEIRLOOM. HARVESTED AND PACKAGED BY HAND IN RESEALABLE AIR TIGHT BAGS (EACH BAG IS INDIVIDUALLY LABELED). ALL SEED LOTS ARE TESTED FOR GERMINATION. Long Purple eggplant is first mentioned by B.K. Bliss and son of New York in 1870, years later in 1877 by Peter Henderson Seed Company. Later mentioned by 1886 by D.M. Ferry An Italian Heirloom. Long Purple has a milder, more delicate flavor than regular eggplant. The Long Purple has just a few seeds and a thin skin that makes it easy to cook. Long Purple grows 24″-30″ in height. Eggplants prefer rich, deep, loose soils. The eggplant, and its close relative the tomato, were considered poisonous for many years. It is a member of the Solanaceae family that includes a number of toxic weeds like Deadly Nightshade. Eventually the adventurous began to try eating eggplant and it even earned a reputation as an aphrodisiac. But, it’s only been in the last 100 years that eggplant has been widely accepted as a vegetable. The large-fruited varieties probably originated in India while the smaller eggplants are thought to have come from China. Zones 3-10 All seeds are packaged and for the current growing season. About Us We are a small family run seed processor that has a long tradition of farming for many generations. I fondly remember my Grandfather telling stories about his Grandfather tilling the earth and the events that impacted his success. The stories bring to life the courage and creativity required to survive capricious weather and market prices. Our history makes it clear that the rewards of farming, including the birthing of the calves, the bounty of a good harvest, and the family’s feeling of being rooted in the soil. I still remember with pride, getting to sit on my Grandfathers lap while driving the tractor for the first time during corn harvest. In addition to commercial crops, most family farms also have large gardens to grow much of the food consumed on a farm. Growing your own vegetables, flowers, spices and herbs, canning and freezing were a normal part of life on the farm. We always saved seed from each plant for starting the cycle for the next year. We would like the opportunity to share some of these seeds with you.
