Allium fistulosum | Japanese Bunching or Welsh Onion | 5 Seeds

Allium fistulosum is a perennial in the Amaryllidaceae family. Its native range is a cultigen from China. Common names include Japanese Bunching Onion, Scallion, Spring Onion, Welsh Onion, and long green onion. It is considered a scallion and used in Asian cuisine. Jamaicans use it in a dried spice mixture, and Japan uses it in Miso soup and other dishes. It can grow to 2 feet tall and 10 inches wide. It does not produce bulbs and has hollow scapes and hollow blue-green leaves. It multiplies by forming evergreen clumps. It has a beautiful inflorescence whit off-white flowers that create a sphere. Grow in full sun or part shade with well-drained soil. Zones 3-10 Germination Sow seeds 1/4″ deep and lightly cover with a medium. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic but maintain a temperature around 65-75F. Germination 7-30 days.
