Plant Name: Pepper, Rainbow Mix Bell Latin Name: Capsicum anuum Days to Germinate: 14-21 Days to Harvest: 60 Germination Rate: 93% Test Date: 10/23 Growth Habit: Bush, Upright USDA Zones: 3-12 Lifespan: Annual Brand: TomorrowSeeds Sunlight: Full Sun, Partial Shade GMO: No Pollination: Heirloom, Open-Pollinated Fungicide-Treated Seeds*: No Seeds Packed For**: 2025 *Fungicide-treated seeds protect the seedlings from diseases until they are up and growing. Do not eat treated seeds. **Seeds are freshly packed for the growing season of the year listed. Seeds are still viable beyond pack date. Store in a cool and dry location such as the refrigerator or basement to best preserve germination rates. Planting Instructions: Soil Preparation: Choose an area with heavy, well-draining soil that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Several weeks before planting, prepare dig or plow the soil 8-10 inches deep and rake up several times to break up large clods. Work the soil when it is dry enough to not stick to garden tools. You may optionally apply manure, compost, peat moss, or rotted hay to build the organic matter content of the soil, especially if working with heavy clay. Planting: Try not to plant seeds until the soil warms in the spring and all danger of frost is past since peppers grow best in warm weather. For Fall planting, plant peppers 12-16 weeks before the first expected frost. Starting peppers indoors and then transplanting outdoors will be easier than if starting from seed outdoors. If direct sowing, plant 3-4 seeds in 1/2 inch deep holes spaced 1 1/2 feet apart within rows spaced 3 feet apart (from hole to hole). If transplanting, plant 3-4 seeds 1/2 inch deep in a pot. When pepper plants are 4-6 inches tall, transplant outdoors. Make 3-4 inch-deep transplant holes spaced 1 1/2 feet apart within raised rows spaced 3 feet apart (from plant to plant). Fill the holes with water and let it soak in. The slightly sunken areas that were created will help the plant to retain water. Move the plants carefully from the pots or flats and set them in the transplant holes, leaving as much soil as possible around the roots. Fill the hole with soil and pack it loosely around the plant. Leave a slightly sunken area around each plant to hold water. Water the plants after planting. It is best to transplant peppers in the evening or a cloudy day to prevent plants from drying too much and wilting. Planting Depth: 1/2 inch Within-Row Spacing: 1 1/2 feet Between-Row Spacing: 3 feet Care During the Season: Watering: Water the plants enough to keep from wilting. Slow, deep watering helps the root system grow strong. Try not to let pepper plants wilt because this will reduce yield and quality of the fruit. Weeding and Pruning: Keep plants as weed-free as possible. When tilling or hoeing, be careful not to cut too deeply into the soil near the pepper plants as cutting the feeder rooters may slow the plant’s growth. Pull by hand any weeds that are close to the plants. Fertilizing: You may optionally add 2-3 pounds of a complete fertilizer per 100 square feet of garden area. Spread the fertilizer evenly over the garden and work into the soil. If planting single pepper plants, after the first pepper begins to enlarge, you may optionally place about 2 level tablespoons of fertilizer around each plant about 6 inches from the stem, then mix it well with the soil. Water the plant after adding the fertilizer. This will increase the yield and quality of the peppers. Insecticides: Insecticides may be used to protect plants. Bt-based insecticides and sulfur are organic options that can be used for prevention. Sulfur also has fungicidal properties and helps in controlling many diseases. Sevin is a synthetic insecticide that can be used to control for the flea beatle. Insecticidal soaps and neem oils are good ways to control for aphids. Before using a pesticide, please read the label and always follow cautions, warnings and directions. Diseases: Watch pepper plants closely, especially in mild weather. Leaf spots are caused by fungi and bacteria and can be treated with neem oil, sulfur, and other fungicides. Please always follow label directions. Harvesting: Harvest peppers as they mature to increase yields throughout the season. The first peppers are usually ready 8-10 weeks after transplanting. Pick bell peppers when they become shiny, firm, and dark green. If left on the plant, peppers will turn red or to the desired color (yellow, purple, orange, brown, white), depending on the variety. Green and colored peppers will be good to eat. Use peppers within 3 days of harvesting, or store in the refrigerator crisper or other covered containers. Kakai Hulless Pumpkin Seeds | Naked Seed DeShelled Styrian Pumpkins Seed 2025
Kakai Pumpkins are genetic works of wonder, producing hull-less pumpkin seeds! Kakai grows 5-8-pound pumpkins with mesmerizing green-and-orange skin and unique black striping. Their large production of dark-green seeds are perfect for roasting and snacking! Kakai seeds are rich in oils and are capable of producing healthy seed oil. Their sweet nutty flesh is delicious and versatile, useful for roasting, baking, and pureeing in pies, breads, and more. Also unlike traditional pumpkins, Kakai has a semi-bush growth habit, making them great to grow in small gardens. Squash is one of the plants grown in the traditional Native American vegetable growing technique called the Three Sisters. The other two plants in the Three Sisters are beans and corn. Each plant had its role in this companion planting tradition. Corn served as a structure for the vining beans to grow up. Squash served as a ground cover to prevent weeds from growing. Beans provided natural fertilizer for all. Also Known As: Styrian Pumpkin, Austrian Pumpkin, Oilseed Pumpkin, Austrian Oil Pumpkin, Hulless Pumpkin, Naked-Seeded Pumpkin, Kakai Squash, Kakai Striped Pumpkin We ship in 1 business day. Shipped with USPS First Class Mail. Plant Name: Pumpkin, Kakai Latin Name: Curcubita pepo var. styriaca Days to Germinate: 7-14 Days to Harvest: 100 Germination Rate: 99% Test Date: 3/24 Growth Habit: Vining USDA Zones: 3-9 Lifespan: Annual Brand: TomorrowSeeds Sunlight: Full Sun, Partial Shade GMO: No Pollination: Heirloom, Open-Pollinated Fungicide-Treated Seeds*: No Seeds Packed For**: 2025 *Fungicide-treated seeds protect the seedlings from diseases until they are up and growing. Do not eat treated seeds. **Seeds are freshly packed for the growing season of the year listed. Seeds are still viable beyond pack date. Store in a cool and dry location such as the refrigerator or basement to best preserve germination rates. Planting Instructions: Soil Preparation: Squash grows best in sandy, fertile soils with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5. To prepare soil, remove weeds, large rocks, and litter from the planting area. Leave small weeds and dead grass, they will enrich the soil when turned under. Spade the soil 8-12 inches deep and turn each shovel of soil over completely to cover the plant materials with soil. You may add fertilizer (see “Fertilizing” below) or 2-3 inches of organic material such as compost, leaves, or rotted hay over the planting area at this point. Till to mix this organic material into the top 8-10 inches of soil. For squash, make rows of soil beds 4-6 inches high and at least 3 feet apart. This formation of ridges will help with drainage. Planting: Since squash does not grow well in cool weather, plant in the spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil begins to warm. For a good fall crop, plant early so squash will mature before the first killing frost. To plant, make 1 inch deep holes spaced 4 feet apart in raised beds down the rows, then plant 5-6 seeds in each hole. Cover thinly with soil and water after planting. After the seeds come up and plants are 3-4 inches tall, thin to 3 squash plants per hill. Planting Depth: 1 inch Within-Row Spacing: 4 feet Between-Row Spacing: 8 feet Care During the Season: Watering: Water the plants enough to keep them from wilting. If the weather is really dry, squash plants should be watered at least once a week. Sandy soils need to be watered more often than heavy clay soils. Weeding: Keep squash plants as weed-free as possible. When plowing or hoeing do not dig deeper than 1 inch to prevent from cutting the feeder rooters which may slow the plant’s growth. Fertilizing: You may optionally add scatter 2-3 pounds of a complete fertilizer for each 100 square feet of garden area. Work into the soil and leave the surface smooth. For small gardens, use 2-3 tablespoons of fertilizer for each hill. Scatter the fertilizer evenly over a 2 foot by 2 foot area. work it into the top 2-3 inches of soil. When blooms first appear, you may optionally apply 2 tablespoons of fertilizer around each hill. Do not let fertilizer touch the plants. Water the plants after fertilizing. Insecticides: Insecticides may be used to protect plants. Bt-based insecticides and sulfur are organic options that can be used for prevention. Sulfur also has fungicidal properties and helps in controlling many diseases. Larvae of the Squash vine borer are usually found inside the stem and cannot be controlled once they are inside the stem. Sevin® and Thiodan® can control for squash bugs. Pyrethrin and rotenone can control for the cucumber beetle. Before using a pesticide, read the label and always follow cautions, warnings and directions. Diseases: Squash can get many diseases, especially when harvesting begins. Check the plants daily and if spots or mold appear, treat the plant with an approved fungicide. Neem oil, sulfur, and other fungicides may be used. Please always follow label directions. Harvesting: Harvest winter squash when they are full sized, the skin is hard, and the bottom of the fruit is lightened in color. A light frost will not damage fruits of winter squash. A light frost will not damage fruits of winter squash. Squash is best when cut, not pulled, from the vine. Winter squash can be stored for several months. Old squash vines can be composted or worked in the soil well before the Spring planting season. 25 TENDERSWEET ORANGE WATERMELON SEEDS FRESH HARVEST FOR 2024 GARDENS
25TENDERSWEET ORANGE WATERMELON SEEDS In this in-depth guide, we will explore how to cultivate Tendersweet Orange Watermelon, a delicious and popular variety of watermelon known for its vibrant orange flesh. We will cover the entire cultivation process, from selecting the seeds to harvesting the fruits. Additionally, we will share a popular recipe using Tendersweet Orange Watermelon, as well as highlight some of its health benefits. Cultivating Tendersweet Orange Watermelon: 1. Seed Selection: Start by choosing high-quality seeds from a reputable supplier or nursery. Look for Tendersweet Orange Watermelon seeds that are fresh, viable, and disease-free. 2. Soil Preparation: Prepare the soil by removing weeds and rocks, and ensure it is well-draining. Watermelons prefer loamy soil, rich in organic matter. Amend the soil with compost or well-rotted manure to improve its fertility. 3. Planting: Watermelons require warm soil for successful germination. Wait until the soil temperature consistently reaches at least 70°F (21°C) before planting. You can start seeds indoors 2-4 weeks before the last frost or sow directly into the ground. Space the plants about 3-4 feet apart in rows, leaving 6-8 feet between rows. 4. Sunlight and Water: Tendersweet Orange Watermelons thrive in full sun, so ensure they receive at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Water regularly, providing one inch of water per week. Avoid overwatering as it can lead to poor fruit quality or splitting. 5. Trellising and Support: As the vines grow, they can become heavy with fruit. Consider using trellises or stakes to support the vines and prevent them from sprawling on the ground. This can help protect the melons from rotting and save space in your garden. 6. Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer according to the package instructions once the vines begin to develop. Additionally, side-dress the plants with compost or well-rotted manure during the growing season to provide additional nutrients. 7. Pollination: Watermelons require bees or other pollinators for successful fruit set. Avoid using pesticides during the flowering period to ensure pollination occurs naturally. Consider planting pollinator-friendly flowers nearby to attract bees to your garden. 8. Pest and Disease Management: Monitor your plants regularly for signs of pests such as aphids, cucumber beetles, or squash bugs. If necessary, use organic insecticides or consult with local experts for suitable pest management strategies. Proper spacing, good air circulation, and well-draining soil can help minimize fungal diseases. 9. Harvesting: Tendersweet Orange Watermelons typically mature in 75-90 days. Harvesting them at the right time is crucial for optimal taste and texture. Tap the melon on the side – if it sounds hollow, it is likely ripe. Additionally, observe the color of the skin, which should be creamy yellow, and the tendrils near the fruit, which should be dry and brown. Popular Recipe: Tendersweet Orange Watermelon Salad Ingredients: – 1 medium-sized Tendersweet Orange Watermelon, chilled and cubed – 1 cup crumbled feta cheese – ½ cup fresh mint leaves, torn – ¼ cup olive oil – 2 tbsp lime juice – Salt and pepper to taste Instructions: 1. Season with salt and pepper to taste. 3. Drizzle the dressing over the watermelon mixture and gently toss to combine. 4. Serve the salad chilled and enjoy!
