TifBlair Certified Centipede Centi-Seed Ecograss turfgrass is a more drought tolerant grass and requires less fertilizer. This makes it an ideal grass for today’s environmental concerns about water usage, run-off and storm water system management. Characteristics include: A turfgrass for full sun to partial shadeTifBlair establishes as a drought-tolerant lawnHeat- and cold-tolerant turfgrassSlow-growing lawn; needs less mowing and is easier to mowMedium green, medium-textured turfgrassStays greener longer in the fall and greens up earlier in the spring than common Centipede turfgrass How Much SeedUsing plenty of seed is the least expensive part of establishing a good lawn. “Saving” on the cost of seed results in spending more on watering and weeding. The rates below produce a good lawn in 2-3 months of summer growth.Make a sketch of your lot and then measure with a tape the area you wish to seed. Calculate the square feet of seed needed by multiplying length times the width of the area measured. Deduct a reasonable amount for buildings, paved drives, and walks. length x width = square feet of sod neededTifBlair Certified Super-Wrapped Seed Each 1lb bag will cover up to 4,000 square feet. Each 5lb bag will cover up to 20,000 square feet (.45 acre)

In cool climates, planting wildflower seeds in spring or early summer is ideal since temperatures are warm enough for germination but not so hot that it’s difficult to keep seeded areas moist. Planting in summer is not recommended since it is difficult to keep seed beds continually moist for the first 4-6 weeks. The hot summer sun tends to dry the soil out too quickly. Wildflower seeds can also be planted in fall in cool climates. Dormant fall wildflower plantings should be late enough so that seeds do not germinate until spring. These must be done when air and soil temperatures are too low for germination, typically after several freezes but before there is snow cover. The seeds will lie “dormant” in the soil until spring when warmer temperatures and moisture are available. Soil expansion and contraction during the winter can also improve seed-soil contact (cold stratification). Perennials can also be sown in early fall provided that there are at least 10-12 weeks of growing time before the plants go dormant for the winter. This amount of time generally allows enough root growth for plants to survive the winter. WHERE TO PLANT WILDFLOWERS: Though many wildflowers do tolerate some filtered shade, and a few actually thrive in it. The vast majority are definitely sun lovers. Wildflowers will generally sprout in all but the most difficult conditions. This means that pampering your site with fertilizer or rich sod is not usually necessary. HOW TO PLANT WILDFLOWERS: Clear the area and work the soil as best you can before planting your seeds. We recommend mixing your seeds with sand – 2 parts sand to 1 part seeds. This allows for a more even distribution and also provides a convenient way to mark which portions of the site have been seeded and which have not. For a smaller area, you can hand-broadcast the seeds. After the seeds have been sown, lightly compress the seeds into the soil about 1/2″ to protect from birds and wind. MOISTURE REQUIREMENTS: All seeds, including wildflower seeds, need ample moisture to germinate and to develop into healthy seedlings. Best results will be obtained by soaking the planted areas thoroughly and maintaining consistent moisture for 4-6 weeks. Afterwards, watering can be gradually reduced over several weeks. In non-irrigated situations, plant in the spring or before periods of anticipated rainfall. HOW TO CARE FOR WILDFLOWERS: Although Wildflowers are pretty easy to take care of, there are some steps to keep it looking beautiful. Regularly weed to ensure your wildflowers are getting the nutrients they need. Water your plants during dry spells. Deadhead blooms that are spent to encourage new growth. WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR WILDFLOWER GARDEN: Most of our wildflower seed mixes contain annual, biennial and perennial species. Please read the mix contents. The annuals are included to assure maximum color during the first season and to act as a nurse crop for the slower-growing perennials. Annuals germinate quickly when conditions are favorable, providing a quick ground cover and competition against weeds. Most perennial and biennial species begin to bloom the second season, but not as profusely as annuals. Therefore, wildflower plantings look noticeably different after the first year. Sunflowers send down long taproots that can be stunted in small pots. Once all danger of frost has passed and both daytime and nighttime temperatures reach 55F to 60F you are ready to sow your sunflower seeds.Where to Plant Sunflower SeedsSunflowers grow best in full-sun locations – receiving at least 6 to 8 hours of full sun exposure per day. Though sunflowers are not finicky, they do appreciate loose, well-draining soil. Choose a location that is sheltered from strong winds, perhaps along a fence or near a building. Also consider the height that the particular variety will reach. How to Plant Sunflower SeedsPerennial Sunflower seeds like Maximillian Sunflower, require a special 28 day treatment called cold stratification prior to planting them. Learn how to cold stratify your seed here.Once you have chosen your location, dig down to a depth of 2 inches and turn the soil over to loosen it. Many seeds, like poppies, need sun to germinate. This is not the case with sunflowers and in fact need to be pressed 1 inch deep into the soil. If left on the soil surface, more than likely birds will come and eat them before they ever get anywhere close to germination. Final spacing should be 36” apart for giant sunflowers, 24’ apart for regular-sized and 12” apart for miniature varieties. How to Care for SunflowersSunflowers are usually problem-free. Plant early enough so that autumn frosts do not cut your sunflowers’ life cycle short. Too much rainfall before and after germination can cause the seeds to rot or bring on downy mildew. Be sure to seed after the rainy season to avoid this. How to Harvest Sunflower SeedsIf you would like to harvest the seeds to either replant next year, wait until the end of the bloom cycle. Sunflowers blooms often last 30-45 days. Toward the end of this period, the green back of the flower head will begin to turn yellow and will usually droop at this time. You will also see the seeds swelling on the face of the sunflower. Cover the flowers with paper bags to protect them from birds. Cut off the flower heads and leave inside the brown paper bag. Store this bag in a well-ventilated place like a garage until fully dry. Rub along the seeds with the palm of your hand and the seeds should fall right out into your bag, or work over a cookie sheet. Store seeds in a cool, dry environment until you are ready to reseed next year. To eat: Soak overnight in water, or salt water. Drain, spread on a shallow baking sheet, and roast for 3 hours at 200F or until crisp. SHIPPINGYour orders ship the next business date after payment via US mail in a PADDED ENVELOPE. No Tracking.
