It is the very plant that decomposes and creates peat. Many growers use sphagnum moss in their bog gardens, as a top layer for their potted carnivorous plants, and as the actual growing medium for others. It is excellent in terrariums and with amphibians. Finely chopped, it makes a great starter for cuttings and seeds. It is frequently added to soil mixes to provide good moisture holding ability, as well as a looser, more porous mix. This variety may exhibit various colors from green to brown to red, but is predominantly pale green. Sphagnum Moss is a primitive bryophyte like ferns and clubmosses. Unlike more common forms of lawn or woodland moss, Sphagnum Moss is larger, and requires very damp growing conditions. It prefers the shady areas of the bog, typically growing in and among other bog plants. It is easily distinguished from other mosses by its pale green color, clumping habit and preference for wet areas. It is a rapid grower, clumps nicely, and does well with pitcher plants. It usually needs frequent trimming when grown with flytraps, butterworts and sundews. Select the Dwarf or Red Sphagnum for shorter, slower growing Sphagnum. It spreads nicely, and can be divided into smaller plugs to plant a larger area. Though Sphagnum Moss has no roots and does not require soil, it benefits from planting in a loose CP soil mix. The 6000 is an “approximate” figure. Seeds have been counted many times to attain a weight that should insure you with approximately 6000 seeds. To give you an idea of what 6000 looks like, when you purchase seeds in the store like the packaged kind you see on the racks that are usually priced at $1.95 and up and on average these packages contain 50-80 seeds with some less and some more. This should give you a rough idea. This is not pounds. Although the number sounds huge, seeds do not take up much space at all. These seeds are “Fresh”…Quality comes first…All Seeds are “HAND SORTED & SELECTED”…Smaller, Broken, Dead and Dried out seeds are removed so that you are guaranteed to get quality cream of the crop seeds. It’s tedious work and I enjoy it thoroughly because I love the product so much. You can juice it or blend it. Any kind of high speed blender or osterizer will work if you don’t have a juicer, you will need to strain it if you don’t like pulp. But don’t throw away that pulp because you use it to add to dishes, ie, veggies. You will get the maximum benefits using a juicer. The pulp will only be beneficial as fiber, but hey, fiber is good. Also, you can just eat it…cut it up and sprinkle it on a salad…or grow it for your pets like I do, eating it fresh provides you with a source of fiber. The grass needs to be masticated to obtain the health benefits. Cats love it and so do Rabbits, Dogs, Birds or whatever your pet may be. It’s easy to grow and fresh all the time. Wheat Grass will live about 3 1/2 weeks then you need to regrow. It’s meant for consumption. It’s possible to get a second cut, but it won’t be tender like the first cut. I don’t like it myself and I just throw it and re-grow it each time. Wheat Grass is scientifically proven to improve the overall health of humans as well as any pet that eats grass, better said, anything with a circulatory system! It can’t be proven to or cure disease because that’s not possible to do, but if the circulatory system is improved, the body’s ability to fight off or cure illness is improved in turn. There are many testimonials out there that make the claim that wheat grass helped to cure them from serious illnesses i.e. infections and cancer. Remember, these are personal testimonials not doctor’s claims. To a rabbit wheat grass is “Fresh Hay”. There is that one in a million cat that just won’t eat it. I have one buyer with 9 cats and one won’t touch it. It’s almost unheard of but it can happen. So if you have that one in a million cat that won’t eat it, it’s not the wheat grass and it’s not you. You can see the new baby enjoying his wheat grass just the way the pets like it…”Right from the pot”! In the picture…pots are about 3″ high…perfect height for rabbits…can also be grown in a larger sized pot. The pot in front approx 4-5 days…back 2 pots approx 8-10 days…the plants in the pic were grown right in my kitchen window. our cat or any pet is eating your plants they are trying to tell you something, that is, there is something in that plant they need. Give them a healthy plant that tastes better and is better for them. Wheat Grass will also solve the HAIRBALL problem. Hairballs are usually what causes a pet to vomit as they build up in the tummy and they can’t pass them. Wheat Grass has enzymes that will allow the cat or any pet to pass the hairballs through their system and by doing that their tummy’s and the rest of their digestive system will be much happier. Pet’s need greens that’s why they eat grass. You should NEVER let your pet eat lawn grass as it has SHARP BARB’S that can cause tiny cuts in their tiny throats and those sharp barbs go right to their tummy’s causing tummy upset. The sharp SHARP BARB’S are also the reason why many gag when they try to eat grass. When they are eating grass, they are telling you they need greens and they do. You can just plant the seeds (hardier for pets)…or you can sprout them first and that’s for more experienced interested in growing hydroponically. Personally, I don’t recommend sprouting before growing in soil. It increases your chances of failure, and it’s just not necessary, keep it simple. All you need is Sun, Soil, Water and “Any type” planting pot over 3″ deep…get creative or just go for simple like in my pic…Basically just place seed on soil…cover with a thin layer of soil…water well…stand back and watch…sounds easy…but you will need to control the growing environment and that’s not hard. I have grown wheat grass for years. You don’t need a green thumb and it’s just plain simple to grow.
