Mint, Common – Heirloom Seeds – Medicinal & Culinary Herb – GMO Free (Mentha spp

July 8, 2026

Common Mint (Mentha Spp.) – 100 Seeds •Heirloom •Non-GMO •American grown seeds •Perennial •USDA Zones: 4-9 Description: Mint is native to the Mediterranean, but spread into Britain and eventually to America. The Pilgrims brought mint with them on their first journey overseas. While there are a lot of mints: Spearmint, Peppermint, Vietnamese Mint (which isn’t a true mint), Basil Mint, Chocolate Mint and so on… the mint I like best, the one I use most is usually sold under the imaginative name: ‘Mint’ or very occasionally ‘Common Mint’ or ‘Culinary Mint’. Bursting with fragrance and flavor, mint is a versatile herb, adding sprightly, fresh coolness to sweet and savory dishes. Medicinal Uses: Mint has been long known as an herbal remedy, easing queasy stomachs, calming stress and anxiety, and promoting restful sleep. Growing Instructions: Transplant (recommended): Start 6-8 weeks before setting out in early spring; young plants can withstand some freezing. Sow seeds on top of the growing medium, gently pressing them into the soil mix. Do not cover, as the seeds require light to germinate. Keep moist and germinate at a temperature of 55-65°F. Transplant seedlings into individual containers when the first true leaves appear in full sun to partial shade. Pinch off the top sets of leaves regularly starting at the seedling stage for a bushier, healthier plant. When 3-4″ tall, transplant outside, spacing plants 12-18″ apart in rows 18″ apart. Since mint spreads quickly, choose location carefully, possibly with a growth barrier. Water deeply once in a while, rather than watering the plants lightly more often. To prevent the spread of leaf diseases, water the soil and not the foliage. Cut back the plants to the ground before winter. This will make for healthier, more prolific plants the following year. •FREE SHIPPING on all orders of $35 or more. •Flat Rate shipping no matter how many seeds you order. •Growing instructions included on each seed packet. *All information is provided for educational purposes only.

They have been used for medicinal purporse all over the world for thousands of years. Although Mint is a perennial, its quality may decrease after 3 to 5 years and should be replaced. Full Sun will produce higher concentration levels of oils and a more robust flavor. They can also tolerate partial shade as well. If put in Full Sun, make sure the mint stays moist at all times and never become dry. They grow best in rich soil, but almost any soil will do. They prefer pH soils of 5.5 to 7.5, and neutral soil is best. Like most varieties, Mint grows best in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Keep soil moist, watering freely in dry weather. Because this is a live plant, it may show some stress or wilted leaves, and normally, they should regain PLANT THEM AS SOON AS YOU RECEIVE THEM IN AFTER SUN SET AND WATER THEM VERY VERY WELL IN FIRST COUPLE OF DAYS Peppermint (Mentha piperita), a popular flavoring for gum, toothpaste, and tea, is also used to soothe an upset stomach or to aid digestion. It has a calming and numbing effect, and is often used to treat headaches, skin irritation, nausea, diarrhea, menstrual cramps, flatulence, and anxiety associated with depression. It is also an ingredient in chest rubs used to treat symptoms of the common cold. In test tubes, peppermint kills some types of bacteria, fungi, and viruses, suggesting it may have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. Menthol and methyl salicylate, the main ingredients in peppermint, have antispasmodic effects, with calming effects on the gastrointestinal tract. Several studies support the use of peppermint for indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome. Indigestion Peppermint calms the muscles of the stomach and improves the flow of bile, which the body uses to digest fats. As a result, food passes through the stomach more quickly. However, if your symptoms of indigestion are related to a condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD, you should not use peppermint (see “Precautions” section). Flatulence/Bloating Peppermint relaxes the muscles that allow painful digestive gas to pass. Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Several studies have shown that enteric-coated peppermint capsules can help treat symptoms of IBS, including pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea. (Enteric-coated capsules keep peppermint oil from being released in the stomach, which can cause heartburn and indigestion.) However, a few studies have shown no effect. One study examined 57 people with IBS who received either enteric-coated peppermint capsules or placebo twice a day for 4 weeks. Of the people who took peppermint, 75% had a significant reduction of IBS symptoms. Another study comparing enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules to placebo in children with IBS found that after 2 weeks, 75% of those treated had reduced symptoms. Finally, a more recent study conducted in Taiwan found that patients who took an enteric-coated peppermint oil formulation 3 to 4 times daily for 1 month had less abdominal distention, stool frequency, and flatulence than those who took a placebo. Nearly 80% of the patients who took peppermint also had alleviation of abdominal pain. Itching and Skin Irritation Peppermint, when applied topically, has a soothing and cooling effect on skin irritation caused by hives, poison ivy, or poison oak. Tension Headache Tension Headache One small study suggested that peppermint applied to the forehead and temples helped reduce headache symptoms. Colds and Flu Peppermint and its main active agent, menthol, are effective decongestants. Because menthol thins mucus, it is also a good expectorant, meaning it helps loosen phlegm and breaks up coughs. It is soothing and calming for sore throats (pharyngitis) and dry coughs. Plant Description Peppermint plants grow to about 2 to 3 feet tall. They bloom from July through August, sprouting tiny purple flowers in whorls and terminal spikes. Dark green, fragrant leaves grow opposite white flowers. SEE PICTURES COMBINE SHIPPING
