Where to Plant Perennial Wildflower Seeds Though many wildflowers do tolerate some filtered shade, and a few actually thrive in it. The vast majority are definitely sun-lovers. Wildflowers will generally sprout in all but the most difficult conditions. This means that pampering your site with fertilizer or rich sod is not usually necessary. How to Plant Perennial Wildflower Seeds Wildflower seeds require light to germinate, so be careful not to cover them when planting. Learn more about germination light requirements here. Clear the area and work the soil as best you can before planting your seeds. Don’t panic when some weeds sprout along with the flowers, this will happen when the soil is worked. We recommend mixing your seeds with sand – 5 parts sand to 1 part seeds. This allows for a more even distribution and also provides a convenient way to mark which portions of the site have been seeded and which have not. For a smaller area, you can hand-broadcast the seeds. For larger areas, we recommend a seed spreader to create a better cast of the seeds. After the seeds have been sown, lightly compress the seeds into the soil about 1/4″ to protect from birds and wind. How to Care for Perennial Wildflowers Although Wildflowers are pretty easy to take care of, there are some steps to keep it looking beautiful. Regularly weed to ensure your wildflowers are getting the nutrients they need. Water your plants during dry spells. Deadhead blooms that are spend to encourage new growth.. WE SHIP FAST & FREE! Keep in mind that Zinnias are native to Mexico, where they have become accustomed to long, hot summers. They are classed as tender annuals and can be directly sown into the garden after all danger of frost is over and daytime temps are at least 50F and above. In cooler climates, start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before your area’s average last-frost date. Harden off the plants by vacationing trays outside for a few hours per day before planting them in your garden.WHERE TO PLANT ZINNIA SEEDSChoose a spot that has full sun. Zinnias can thrive in a wide array of well-draining soil conditions.HOW TO PLANT ZINNIA SEEDSTurn over the soil in the area you want to plant your zinnias and work in 2 or 3 inches of compost or peat moss to help improve soil fertility and drainage. Plant the seeds only about ¼” – ½” deep and you should see seedlings sprout in four to seven days. Once the seedlings reach about 3” tall, thin them to maximize air circulation, and prevent powdery mildew. The dwarf varieties, reaching a height of 1 to 1 ½ feet, should be planted or thinned to about 9” apart, while the taller 3-feet varieties should be spaced about 1 foot apart. If starting your zinnias indoors, fill up your pots with organic potting mix. Saturate the potting mix with water and then place two zinnia seeds into each planting cell or pot. Press into the soil for good seed-to-soil contact and then cover with approximately ½” of the potting mix.Place your zinnias in an area that will receive plenty of warmth (65-70F) and light. Keep your zinnia seeds moistened, checking on them every day or two. Expect to see germination in about 7 to 10 days. Once your seedlings reach about 2 ½ – 3” tall, they are ready to be transplanted outdoors.Zinnias may be transplanted with ease, as it is possible to move the plants when they are in full flower! Although they thrive best in full sun, they will also endure partial shade.HOW TO CARE FOR ZINNIASWater the area of your zinnia plants carefully, do not get the stems or leaves wet since zinnias are prone to mildew. Keep your zinnia garden lightly moistened, and let the area dry out between watering. The beauty of zinnias is that you can spend your attention elsewhere while they bloom profusely summer to autumn.WE SHIP FAST & FREE! July 8, 2026

Verbena bonariensis Tall Purple Wildflower Fall Planting Butterflies Non-GMO 500 SeedsPlant a wildflower meadow!PLANT INFORMATION Verbena bonariensis works well in a number of garden settings, such as cottage and contemporary gardens, due to its height and airy appearance. It’s also beneficial for attracting wildlife, particularly butterflies. Verbena (Verbena Bonariensis) – Commonly called Purpletop Vervain, this is one of the best flowering perennials for attracting butterflies, and in particular the Tiger Swallowtail. 80% of seeds are dormant when shipped and need cold stratification to bloom the following year. You will be rewarded with tons of blooms, pollinators, hummingbirds and butterflies! This plant will draw bees, hummingbird moths, butterflies and more – such a pollinator favorite! Blooms early and if you cut it down to about a foot mid-season it will continue to bloom into frost then crumble up the seeds and it will bloom in spring Bright lavender pompons for quick, easy color! A species Verbena, this tender perennial offers months of garden color both from the big blooms and from the finely-cut dark green foliage. Good tolerance of heat and drought means even longer, more perfect bloom. Even though it tolerates dry soils, it really loves moist to wet conditions. And when it finds a place it likes, it self-sows freely! Grown as an annual north of its hardiness range, V. bonariensis is a staple of the cottage garden, cutting garden, and meadow. It tolerates poor soils beautifully, asking only for good drainage and plenty of sunshine. The ideal addition to a wildflower garden! Perennial in zones 7-10. About Verbena: Pronunciation: ver-be’nå Lifecycle: Perennial/Annual Origination: Verbenaceae; nativity in text below Common Name: Vervain Verbena Germination Information Verbena seed germination can take as little as 20 days or up to a month or more and, in most cases, requires cold stratification in order to be successful. See Cold stratification instructions below. Verbena is the botanical name for Vervain How to Sow Verbena: Sow indoors, 12-14 weeks before last frost, at a temperature of 70-75° Expect germination in 20-25 days As darkness is necessary for germination, sow seeds at a depth of 4 times the size of the seeds or cover the seed flat with black plastic Remove the cover at first sign of germination. Seedlings are subject to damping off When sowing seed outdoors, we recommend a maximum planting depth of 4X the width of the seed How to Grow Verbena: Transplanting: Transplant when there are at least two sets of true leaves Spacing: Space 12 inches apart in full sun Soil: Site in a light, rich, well-drained soil. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings Temperature: Site in full sun, provide 55° nights Additional Care: As a group they are very tolerant of drought, exposure, wind, heat, humidity, and pollution. The perennial types can get straggly, so cut back hard in early spring or resow seeds each year. · HOW TO COLD STRATIFY SEEDS· · Everyone wants plants. Now. But there are a small group of seeds that require a special treatment before they will even germinate in a climate that has temperatures below freezing. This process is called “Cold Stratification.” There are two ways to accomplish this.· Fall Planting If time is not a problem, you can put them in the ground in fall and let them go through a winter. They will sprout next year, but not flower. The following year, having gone through two winters, they will return and bloom as expected.· If you are planting poppies direct sowing is recommended in late fall or early spring for zones 2-8· Create a “False Winter” The second way to do this, if you want to save time, is to create a “false winter.” What this does is trick the seeds into thinking they have been in the ground for an entire year. All they need is to be in your refrigerator for at least 2 ½ months.· About 3 months before spring, place seeds in a plastic bag with a handful of slightly dampened, clean peat, paper towel, or a mix of clean peat and sand. Seal and label the bag with seed name and date, then store in the refrigerator (not freezer) for at least 2½ mos. before planting in spring. (The cold period mimics a full winter’s cold.) Once your seed has been treated, it’s ready to plant when spring arrives. SEED STORING Store your seeds in a cool, dry and dark location. Most seeds have a long shelf life, but heat and moisture will cut that life short. Dedicate a drawer or cabinet to storing your seeds where you can also house your gardening journal close at hand for dreaming, planning and preparing. WE SHIP FAST & FREE! Cover the bottom of the container with an inch or two of moistened potting soil/mix or coir.3. Flatten and level it with your hand or a small piece of cardboard, taking care not to over-compress the soil.4. Scatter seeds evenly on top of the soil.5. Press gently into the soil using your hand or the cardboard.6. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Dampen the surface with a mister.7. If you prefer, you can skip this step and instead cover the container with a clear lid or plastic wrap until the seeds are sprouted.8. While waiting for sprouts to appear, usually within three to seven days, use the mister once or twice daily to keep the soil moist but not wet.9. Once seeds have sprouted, remove the cover (if you’ve used one) and continue to mist once or twice a day.10. Microgreens need about four hours daily of direct sunlight to thrive (south facing window).11. In winter months, some may need even more. Leggy, pale greens are a sign of not enough sunlight.12. Light needs can also be satisfied with a grow light that has a low heat output — you don’t want to scorch your delicate greens.13. Microgreens will be ready to harvest about two to three weeks after planting. Look for the first set of “true leaves” as a sign of readiness.14. Then grab your scissors and snip the greens just above the soil line.15. To serve, wash the microgreens with water and dry with paper towels or a salad spinner.16. Harvest and serve them immediately for the freshest flavor, and add to soups, salads, sandwiches or main dishes.17. Store remaining cut microgreens in a plastic bag in your refrigerator.HOW TO GROW AMARANTH FROM SEEDHow to Grow Red Garnet Amaranth SeedsWHEN TO PLANT AMARANTH SEEDSAmaranth can be planted inside or outside in the Spring, but we’d recommend starting the seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost. If you decide to plant outside, wait until the soil is warm.Amaranth needs full sun and can be grown in almost any well-drained soil besides dense clay.HOW TO PLANT AMARANTH SEEDSPlant your seeds about 10-12 inches apart and cover lightly with soil. They will germinate within 3-4 days if the temperatures are between 60-90 degrees F. When moving your seeds outside, sow them 1.5 to 2 feet apart. Amaranth is drought and heat resistant, so it is only necessary to water once or twice a week during dry periods. For taller plants, add fertilizer once or twice a year or add compost. Amaranth grows between 4 and 6 feet tall but with particularly rich soil with plenty of nitrogen and phosphorous, the plants can get to around 8 feet!HOW TO HARVEST AMARANTHAmaranth will flower until the first hard frost, so there will be plenty of seeds to harvest! Seeds from the flowers are usually ready for harvest after 3 months. To harvest, shake the flower heads and catch the falling seeds.Customer Service First please DO NOT LEAVE A NEGATIVE if you have an issue. WE WILL FIX IT. Larkspur is a member of the Delphinium family, and the different varieties range from 1 to 7 feet.WHEN TO PLANT LARKSPUR: Plant your larkspur seeds in the fall or spring, early in the season.WHERE TO PLANT LARKSPUR: Larkspur plants like full sun to partial shade, and they will grow very quickly. They thrive in average soil and cool weather.HOW TO PLANT LARKSPUR: Larkspur is notoriously difficult to transplant, so it is best to sow seeds directly into your flower garden after all danger of frost. Cover larkspur seeds lightly with 1/8th inch of soil. Space your seeds 4 inches apart, and after germination, thin seedlings to 10-12 inches apart. Keep the soil moist to feed your larkspurs’ fast growth.HOW TO CARE FOR LARKSPUR: During dry periods, water them once or twice a week. Provide a general purpose fertilizer once a month until after they have bloomed. Staking may be necessary to keep them from bending under the weight of the blooms. Larkspurs are highly susceptible to frost, fungal disease (especially Sclerotium), and mildew. Insects should not be a problem, but if they are, use a general purpose insect repellent.Delphinium benefits from Cold Stratification:Cold StratificationHOW TO COLD STRATIFY SEEDS Everyone wants plants. Now. But there are a small group of seeds that require a special treatment before they will even germinate in a climate that has temperatures below freezing. This process is called “Cold Stratification.” There are two ways to accomplish this. Fall Planting If time is not a problem, you can put them in the ground in fall and let them go through a winter. They will sprout next year, but not flower. The following year, having gone through two winters, they will return and bloom as expected. If you are planting poppies direct sowing is recommended in late fall or early spring for zones 2-8 Create a “False Winter” The second way to do this, if you want to save time, is to create a “false winter.” What this does is trick the seeds into thinking they have been in the ground for an entire year. All they need is to be in your refrigerator for at least 2 ½ months. About 3 months before spring, place seeds in a plastic bag with a handful of slightly dampened, clean peat, paper towel, or a mix of clean peat and sand. Seal and label the bag with seed name and date, then store in the refrigerator (not freezer) for at least 2½ mos. before planting in spring. (The cold period mimics a full winter’s cold.) Once your seed has been treated, it’s ready to plant when spring arrives. ** Larkspur can be poisonous to some animals—most notably cattle!** WE SHIP FAST & FREE!
