I started growing these as a hobby several years ago. Grown and propagated in the good ole USA. What you’re receiving: the pictures show fully bloomed plants, plants about to bloom, pots with full growth bulbs. You’ll receive 5 bulbs++( that may or may not have baby bulblets attached to them, leave with bulb when planting OR plant separately) ( see October special) ( depending on clumps you may receive more then 6 bulbs that you can separate upon receiving) Description on caring for the bulbs: Read carefully: in the South these can be grown year round. In the North, in the FALL, I either leave in the pots to let the soil dry out, ( I don’t suggest) cut the leaves about 4” from the bulb, put in say, a shoe box , using cut up newspaper ( to avoid bulbs from being wet and rotting) layer in several layers in the box with newspaper and place in a dark area, garage, crawl space to avoid a hard freeze which would destroy the bulbs. If you take the bulbs out of the ground, again, cut 4” from the bulb, shake off, do not wash off dirt from bulbs and place ( I like shoe boxes) layer by layer with either kitty litter, cut up newspaper and say good night until spring. If your in a temperate zone such as the southwest or Florida these can be grown year round in full sun. I do NOT suggest growing in terracotta pots as they dry up much faster. NOTE: your asking why their no coming up, they take their time!!! Do not overwater as this will turn bulbs into moosh. ( later when growing and in hot sun I water, not soak daily) I use plastic and in full sun you do not want to dry out as bulbs will also wither and dry up. ( usually takes 3-4 weeks after planting before you will see green leaves popping out) To start out, I suggest a bulb fertilizer purchased at any plant store. I amend old soil with a 5-5-5 fertilizer ( because soil gets tired and loses it growing potential) but as they are growing I’ll add regular fertilizer every 2 weeks. Also learned over time, you think these tiny bulbs don’t take up much space and place several in a 4-5-6” pot only to find out that you’d wished you’d put a third as many in the pot. I suggest one bulb in a 6” pot. ( note: more bulbs in a container, less chance of flowering). Soil, well drained, dirt, peat moss, perlite mixture. The bottom of my pots have trays and I keep filled with water daily with direct sun. ( ok, let me explain here, when starting out with bulbs you don’t want to flood them with water even in direct sun, why? They’ll rot. Not until you have great direct sun and green growth coming up from the bulbs should you keep watered 24/7) Word of caution, I have a neighbor who has new dead trees in her front yard, I asked, what happened? Answer, “we just didn’t get around to watering them…..” same person, “ my tomatoes just didn’t grow” “ did you add fertilizer” I asked, “ oh, I guess I should have”. Bulbs I’m sending are being taken right from their beds, they are not in pots, they are loose in aerated bags. Either replant right away, south, southwest OR clip the tops as described before and put away for the winter. I’m sending these out until the frost is in the air and then again not until the freezing is over with in the spring. Buying them now gives you a head start planting in the spring. HOWEVER, if you buy in the dead of winter I may let you know that I won’t ship until spring to avoid freezing and rot. Can you grow indoors? I haven’t tried but unless you have a serious plant lighting system I wouldn’t.
